Song Ha-yoon Files Criminal Complaint Over False School Violence Accusations; Spreader Placed on Wanted List

In a dramatic turn of events, South Korean actress Song Ha-yoon has filed a criminal complaint against an individual accused of spreading false claims about her alleged involvement in school violence more than two decades ago. Her legal team announced this move as part of a broader effort to clear her name and hold those responsible accountable for defamation and obstruction of business.

According to Ji-eum Law Firm, which represents Song Ha-yoon, the allegations initially surfaced last year, sparking widespread attention and public debate. The claims, reportedly stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred during her high school years, have since been debunked with newly gathered evidence. "Although it’s difficult to prove something never happened, we’ve collected substantial proof that the allegations by Mr. Oh are completely false," the legal representative stated.

The complaint, filed with South Korean authorities, accuses Mr. Oh of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, specifically defamation and obstruction of business. Authorities initiated an investigation, but progress was delayed as Mr. Oh, who is currently residing in the United States, refused to cooperate.

While Mr. Oh claimed U.S. citizenship to evade jurisdiction, South Korea’s Ministry of Justice confirmed that he still holds Korean citizenship. His refusal to comply led police to place him on a nationwide wanted list in May, registering his status in the national police database. Authorities have indicated that Mr. Oh will face immediate investigation upon re-entry into Korea.

In addition to domestic legal proceedings, Song Ha-yoon’s legal team is reviewing possible civil and criminal actions in the United States. They are also evaluating liability for third parties who played a role in spreading unverified information. "We are committed to holding all parties accountable," the agency declared, underscoring their dedication to protecting the actress’s reputation.

Song Ha-yoon has strongly denied ever engaging in any violent behavior toward Mr. Oh or anyone else. "I was never forced to transfer schools due to school violence, and I have provided notarized statements, public institution records, and multiple witness testimonies to prove my innocence," she said through her agency.

One key witness, identified by Mr. Oh as present during the alleged incident, reportedly told investigators that they never witnessed any violence and had informed Mr. Oh of the same. Despite this, Mr. Oh proceeded to present the witness in televised interviews, fueling public suspicion and backlash against the actress.

Additional testimony from Song’s high school classmates and former homeroom teacher further undermined the legitimacy of the original claims. Her legal team emphasized that this was the first time any of them had heard such accusations, strongly indicating fabrication.

“The damage to my career and mental well-being has been severe,” Song said, referring to the emotional toll and reputational harm she has suffered over the past year. “Rather than issue a hasty public denial, I chose to reveal the truth through an objective legal process.”

With her contract recently concluded, Song Ha-yoon is reportedly preparing for a new chapter in her career. "I am working to return with a more humble and mature mindset," she said, expressing gratitude to fans for their continued support and patience.

The original report came to light in April of last year, when Mr. Oh appeared on JTBC’s investigative program Case Chief, claiming he was bullied for 90 minutes by the actress in high school. Song Ha-yoon firmly denied the allegations, stating at the time, "I have never even met Mr. Oh."
